403 emergency responders made the ultimate sacrifice during the tragic events of 9/11, losing their lives to save those of countless civilians.
On Saturday, September 8th, 2018, Soapy Joe’s will join San Diego firefighters, police officers, public figures, military personnel and participants in the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb (SD911MSC), a living memorial of these heroes and the many others who die each year in performance of their sworn duties. The event also serves to support firefighters with fundraising efforts for several local organizations.
The Details
San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Saturday, September 8th
Hilton San Diego Bayfront
Check-in begins at 7 a.m.
Register online or on site.
How it Works
This year’s SD911MSC is expected to sell out at 1,300 participants and aims to raise $175,000. The suggested donation with registration is $110, representing the 110 flights of stairs in the Twin Towers and the 110 flights of stairs we will climb together in the Hilton.
Each climber will select and wear the name of a fallen emergency responder who perished on 9/11. The top fundraising individuals and teams leading up to the event receive priority start times for the climb.
The Organizations it Benefits
Aside from bringing the community together for a truly powerful experience, SD911MSC is raising vital funds for FirefighterAid, PsychArmor, Firefighter Cancer Support Network, and the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation. Soapy Joe’s applauds all of these organizations and is running an additional fundraiser for FirefighterAid in particular. True to its name and supported entirely by donations, Firefighter Aid provides charitable assistance to firefighters and their families in times of need, and promotes awareness of the health and safety issues they face.
Registration
This will be our second year as a sponsor of SD911MSC, which also includes a marching band, kid zone, beer garden and food trucks. This event is physically and emotionally uplifting, and we hope to see everyone there on September 8th. To learn more and register, visit www.sandiegostairclimb.com
