San Diego is such a wonderful place to live—especially for a sponge like me, Soapy Joe. I love soaking up the sun and participating in all that our community does to take care of each other.

San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

We recently had the honor of sponsoring Firefighter Aid in the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb (SD911MSC), a living memorial of the 403 emergency responders who made the ultimate sacrifice during the tragic events of 9/11 and the many others who pass each year in performance of their sworn duties.

Supported entirely by donations, Firefighter Aid provides charitable assistance to firefighters and their families in times of need. The organization also promotes awareness of the health and safety issues that these heroes face on the job.

2019 marked our third year as a sponsor and participating team at SD911MSC, where each climber wears the name of a fallen 9/11 emergency responder while climbing 110 flights of stairs—equivalent to those in the Twin Towers—at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. This year’s outing was even more commemorative thanks to the turnout and donations; the event reached its $200k fundraising goal even before the climb!

Komen San Diego Race for the Cure

Another one of our largest annual sponsorships is just around the corner. I am proud to share that Soapy Joe’s car wash is once again the Main Stage sponsor for the Komen San Diego Race for the Cure on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 in Balboa Park.

This will be our fourth consecutive year on the Main Stage, where so many of the uplifting festivities take place. We’ll also have our usual booth with giveaways…and, what’s this…

I just got an email saying that I am confirmed for the mascot dance-off! Can’t wait. The crown is mine, gecko.

Until then, I hope everyone will register for the Nov. 3 walk and donate to support Susan G. Komen’s bold goal of reducing the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026.

Also be sure to visit a Soapy Joe’s near you for a limited-edition pink air freshener leading up to race day.

See you here, there, and at other community events that I’ll announce soon!
